The Budget and Finance Committee of the Los Angeles City Council reviews the City budget, taxes, fees, bonds, claims and lawsuit settlements, and the work of the City Administrative Officer, Controller (except audits), Treasurer and Office of Finance, and sends recommendations to the full Council, which makes the final decision (Council resolution, CF 26-2000). Its members took their seats Aug. 31, 2026 under the Council President's assignment letter.

On Oct. 6, 2026, the Los Angeles City Council's Budget and Finance Committee approved a $20 million transfer to cover a projected deficit in the Fire Department's sworn overtime account and a 2026-27 appropriations limit of $10,026,603,100, each 4-0 with Katy Yaroslavsky absent, and approved as amended the closeout and reallocation of the City's American Rescue Plan Act funds (meeting). It concurred with other committees on nine files, including the bus lane camera program and LADOT's license plate reader policy, the council files show. On Sept. 15 the committee asked the Office of Finance for a revised report on raising the $100,000 small business tax exemption, approved, as amended, a motion asking the Chief Legislative Analyst for recommendations within 60 days on re-establishing the Business Tax Advisory Committee (committee report) and approved the second 2026-27 homelessness funding report as amended (agenda). The Council adopted the two tax items on Sept. 30. On Sept. 1 it approved the 2026-27 First Construction Projects Report as amended and continued the first progress report of the Budget and Finance Advisory Committee, which it continued again on Sept. 15 to a date to be determined (agenda).
