Privacy policy
You can read everything on CityHallPass without an account, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
What we collect
Like most websites, our servers and our network provider, Cloudflare, keep standard technical logs when you visit: the page requested, the time, your browser type and an IP address. We use these logs to keep the site running and to block attacks. We don't sell them, share them for advertising or use them to identify individual visitors.
Server logs are kept for up to 14 days. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie to tell people from automated traffic. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't allow third parties to track visitors across sites through CityHallPass. Fonts and page files come from our own server. If you close the notice bar at the top of the page, your browser remembers that on your device; nothing is sent to us.
We count visits with Cloudflare's traffic analytics, which Cloudflare builds from those same network logs. It shows totals, such as requests per page, countries and browser types. It runs no script in your browser and sets no cookies, and we see totals, not individual visitors.
Addresses you look up
The ballot lookup sends the address you type from your browser straight to Los Angeles County's address and precinct services to find your districts, under the County's own privacy policy. It never reaches our servers, and we don't store it. Only district numbers appear in the results page's link.
The neighborhood council lookup sends the address you type from your browser to Los Angeles County's address service, which returns a map point. That point, not the address, then goes to the City of Los Angeles's map service to find your neighborhood council and Council district. Neither reaches our servers, and we don't store them.
If you email us, we keep your message and address only to reply and to track corrections. We don't add you to a mailing list unless you ask. Email to our addresses passes through Cloudflare's email routing. An AI tool on our own server sorts messages and checks reported errors against the record; a person reads them before anyone replies or changes a page. We delete messages, tips and our notes on them 180 days after they are handled. If a message led to a correction, the correction note on the page stays. Backup copies are gone within 60 days after that.
Email updates
If you sign up for updates, we keep your email address, the topics you picked and the date you confirmed. We run the mailing list software on our own server and send it through Cloudflare's email service. We don't track whether you open emails or click links, and we never sell or share the list. Every email has a link to change your topics, download your data or delete it.
Do Not Track
Because we don't track visitors across sites, we treat every visit the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
Children
This site is meant for a general audience and doesn't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes and contact
