The Los Angeles City Council's Personnel and Hiring Committee meets Oct. 14, 2026 on 13 items, including a City Administrative Officer report counting 6,774 vacant positions out of 37,779 authorized as of Aug. 31, 2026, a three-year extension of the Standard Insurance Company contract for civilian employee disability insurance, which the Council must act on by Nov. 3, 2026, and a LAwell dependent eligibility audit that removed 1,322 dependents from City health coverage (agenda). On Sept. 9 the chair, Tim McOsker, was the only member present to vote, and the items went to the Council as communications from the chair; he recommended approval of three motions, including one directing the City Administrative Officer to provide monthly updates on the City's workforce and hiring, and the Council adopted all three 14-0 on Sept. 16 (CF 26-1199, CF 26-1229, CF 26-1275). He also recommended the reappointment of Andrea Ambriz to the Board of Fire and Police Pensions, which the Council adopted 14-0 on Sept. 16, and the appointment of Anabel Cuevas to the Board of Civil Service Commissioners, which the Council adopted 13-0 on Sept. 22.
