Public Works Committee

Updated

The Public Works Committee of the Los Angeles City Council reviews the Board of Public Works and its bureaus (Engineering, Street Lighting, Street Services, Sanitation, Contract Administration), streets, sidewalks, storm drains, the urban forest, capital projects and the Cannabis Department and sends recommendations to the full Council, which makes the final decision (Council resolution, CF 26-2000). Members below took their seats Aug. 31, 2026 under the Council President's assignment letter.

Latest as of October 10, 2026

The Los Angeles City Council's Public Works Committee meets Oct. 13, 2026 on an eight-item agenda led by two City Administrative Officer recommendations: a $7,849,362 transfer and 81 positions for six months of the citywide Clean Corridors street cleaning program and a $3,133,526 transfer of the rest of that budget account to the Bureau of Street Lighting for hiring hall repair crews after the failed assessment ballot. The agenda also lists a revised vacation of air space over Pico Boulevard and LA Live Way for the Convention Center expansion and motions on converting turf medians to meet a state water law by Jan. 1, 2027 and planting 74,910 vacant tree wells. On Sept. 22 the committee approved, as amended, a motion instructing the Department of Cannabis Regulation to renew 2027 licenses, regardless of tax delinquency, for businesses that would have been eligible for the City's Cannabis Tax Amnesty Program, and asking the City Attorney to draft an ordinance removing the tax requirement for the September to November 2026 renewal period; the Council adopted it 12-0 on Oct. 6, with Traci Park, Curren D. Price Jr. and Katy Yaroslavsky absent (CF 26-1321). The same day the committee approved an ordinance allowing rapid micro-trenching for telecom lines, which the Council adopted 12-0 on Oct. 6 and the City Clerk sent to the Mayor, whose last day to act is Oct. 19 (CF 24-0041), and two nuisance property motions, on a 30-day plan for a citywide vacant and nuisance property abatement program and releasing pending nuisance abatement reports, that go to the Planning and Land Use Management Committee on Oct. 13 (meeting, CF 26-1280).
