Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates

Updated

The Budget Advocates are neighborhood council members, up to three from each of the City's 12 NC regions, who review the City budget and departments for the 99 NCs; the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment says the process was created to help NCs present an annual list of budget priorities to the Mayor and Council. They publish an annual White Paper and department reports, draft Community Impact Statements for NCs to file and hold Budget Day each year.

Latest as of October 6, 2026

The Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates' Oct. 5 agenda listed sign-ups to review the budget impact of the eight City measures on the November ballot, an update on CF 26-0582 on moving City-run animal shelters to a contractor, and a suggested $500 Budget Day contribution from neighborhood councils that have not given in two years (agenda); the next meeting is Oct. 17. At the Aug. 15 meeting, draft minutes record a unanimous vote to spend up to $500 on 2,500 cards promoting the group's budget survey and a report that its budget review of the eight City measures on the Nov. 3 ballot was awaiting final review. The group held NC Budget Day on June 27.
