Ad Hoc Committee on Film, Entertainment, and Creative Industry

Updated

The Ad Hoc Committee on Film, Entertainment, and Creative Industry of the Los Angeles City Council oversees City policy on film, television and creative production, including permits, location filming, use of City facilities and film contracts, and sends recommendations to the full Council (Council resolution, CF 26-2000). The Council created it in May 2026 (CF 24-2000-S3) and re-authorized it on Aug. 11. The Council President's assignment letter set its members from Aug. 31.

Latest as of October 1, 2026

At its Sept. 9 special meeting the committee approved two motions as amended, each 2-0 with one member absent (agenda). The first instructs the Fire Department to waive spot check fees for productions that are assigned a Fire Safety Officer or that pay the fee and are never visited by an inspector, and asks for reports on the cost, on enforcement and on public education about lawful filming (committee report). The second instructs City departments in the film permit process, and asks FilmLA, to report to the committee periodically at the chair's request (committee report). On Sept. 18 the Council adopted the first report 15-0 as amended by an amending motion (Council action) and the second 11-0 with four members absent (Council action).
