Van Nuys Neighborhood Council meeting, August 12, 2026

August 12, 2026, 7 p.m. · Updated

From official records: The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council's board agenda for Aug. 12, 2026, had 16 items, including presentations by Van Nuys Airport staff and by a Quiet Skies Western Horizons consultant on the airport's proposed zone change, with a possible Community Impact Statement, and a support letter for a 98,458-square-foot self-storage building at 15005-15009 Oxnard St. that was also on the July 8 agenda. A later committee agenda says the board "tentatively approved" its 2027 election worksheet at this meeting. Minutes were not on the City agenda index, on the council's agendas and minutes page or in the Sept. 9 board packet as of Oct. 1, 2026, so the other outcomes are not known.

As of October 2, 2026, outcomes for the August 12, 2026 meeting of the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council come from official records posted so far, such as council files, recorded votes and filed statements. Some results may be missing until the full minutes are posted and read.

8. Van Nuys Airport zone change on Hayvenhurst Avenue

  • What it asks: Hear Van Nuys Airport staff, then Timi Romo of Quiet Skies Western Horizons on concerns about the proposed zone change, then possibly file a Community Impact Statement. The agenda names no council file or case number (agenda).
  • What the airport told the board: The agenda prints the airport’s request for the item. It says residents along Hayvenhurst Avenue have asked for noise and emission mitigation, that the Hayvenhurst parcel’s long-term aeronautical lease expires in October 2026, that airport and Los Angeles World Airports planners submitted a draft application in June 2026 to rezone the parcel for commercial use, and that the closed Airtel Plaza Hotel site, which it describes as surrounded by industrial businesses, is an opportunity to relocate jet operations (agenda).
  • What’s next: The Sept. 9 board agenda lists a follow-up discussion and gives the planning case number, CPC-2026-2843-ZC.

12.a. Letter supporting a self-storage facility at 15005-15009 Oxnard St.

  • What it asks: A letter to City Planning supporting case CPC-2019-5750-ZC-HD-SPR: a 98,458-square-foot self-storage building and a height district change from M3-1 to M3-2D, with a floor area ratio of 2.46:1 (agenda).
  • Who brought it: The agenda lists it as a PLUM Committee action item, and the Executive Committee’s draft of this agenda says the PLUM Committee recommends the letter. The item was also on the July 8 agenda and was listed again on the Sept. 9 agenda.

14. 2027 election worksheet

  • What it asks: Approve an election worksheet with the options the Executive Committee recommended: an election on Saturday, May 1, 2027, instead of Thursday, May 6; polls open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Van Nuys Public Library community room as first-choice polling place and Van Nuys Recreation Center, 14301 Vanowen, as second choice; and Spanish forms and a Spanish interpreter (agenda).
  • What happened: The Executive Committee’s Sept. 1 agenda describes the worksheet as “tentatively approved at August 12 GBM.” It gives no vote count. The Sept. 9 board agenda lists reconsidering the two polling place choices.
