Van Nuys Neighborhood Council special meeting agenda, October 12, 2026

October 12, 2026, 6 p.m. · Updated

On the agenda: The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council and its Outreach Committee hold a special joint meeting online on Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. The agenda asks the committee to recommend that the council staff tables at six local events from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, with up to $500 for candy, food and promotional items, to recommend promotional items to buy, and to consider options for the council's street banners on light poles. It says any action is the Outreach Committee's, not the full board's. The same items were on the agenda for the Oct. 8 special joint meeting, and the board's Oct. 14 agenda lists the $500 event request for a roll call vote.

Agenda only. As of October 10, 2026, the October 12, 2026 meeting of the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council has not happened yet and nothing on its agenda has been decided. Agendas can change.

The agenda sets the meeting for Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. on Zoom or by telephone. It was posted on Oct. 9 (City agenda index). The council’s President called it as a joint meeting because a majority of board members might attend, and the agenda says any action “will only be an action of the Outreach Committee members present.” It lists Ray Mandarino as Outreach Committee chair, with members John Camera, Carrie Prince and Francois Verin (agenda).

This is the second special joint meeting on these items since Oct. 8. The Oct. 8 agenda listed the same nine items, with five event entries (one covering two recreation centers) and no dollar amount; the Oct. 12 agenda lists six events and a cap of $500 (agenda). The board’s regular meeting two days later, on Oct. 14, lists the same six events and the $500 request as an Outreach Committee item for a roll call vote (Oct. 14 agenda).

2. Tables at six local events, with up to $500

  • What it asks: The agenda asks the committee to recommend to the board that the council have a table at these events, and to request approval of up to $500 “to purchase candy, food items, and promotional materials to be handed out” (agenda):

    • the Halloween celebration and “Minion Takeover” at Van Nuys Recreation Center, Oct. 31, noon to 4 p.m.
  • Money: Up to $500 (agenda). The council’s 2026-27 budget sets aside $2,470 for outreach (Oct. 14 agenda, page 6).
  • Who brought it: The Outreach Committee. The agenda says any recommendation would go to the full board (agenda).

4. Promotional items for events

  • What it asks: The agenda asks the committee to recommend to the board which promotional items to buy and hand out at local events. It lists possibly more stickers, tote bags (possibly cotton) and bottle and can openers, and other items from the vendor 4imprint, such as a recycled plastic water bottle. It says printed fans had already been approved (agenda).
  • Money: The agenda gives no amount for this item. It links the City Clerk’s guidance on promotional items (agenda).

6. Street banners on light poles

  • What it asks: The agenda asks the committee to consider options for the future of the council’s street banners on light poles, starting with a look at the existing banners (agenda).
